Fourth is the new first!

With only 18 swimmers a Pocklington gala we always had an uphill battle to win the event but the focus as always was on the swimmers doing their best, even when they have to swim in multiple age groups. The swimmers as always did not disappoint and they fully deserved their fish and chips at the end of the evening.

There was a real run of first and second places with the swimmers pulling out all the stops throughout the gala. On the day there were victories for Lauren Walker, Katie Pendlebury, Caitlin Feirn, Joel Feirn and Josh Sellars.

The final result was South Hunsley 135, Pocklington 121, South Axholme 119, Rossington 90.

Well done to all the swimmers and many thanks to our volunteers for making the gala possible - Neil, Danny, Sandra, Glynn, Jill and Clive as well as our taxi service parents J.

RASCALS at Ponds Forge for the Barnsley Extravaganza

This is the first time the club has entered the Xmas meet at Ponds Forge but we came away with a hat full of personal bests, medals and experience for these bigger events.

With this being double age groups it is difficult for everyone to win medals so hitting the heights of multiple personal bests is the way to go. Our youngest on the day was Lucy Pickard and she came away with three personal bests and doesn’t appear overawed by the occasion. In the 11 year olds we had Freddie, Joseph and Emma Masterman; Freddie came away from the event with one personal best and loads of experience, Emma aced both her events and knocked off loads of time from her personal bests, Joseph has been prolific this year in terms of PBs with 43 and just missed out today.

In the 14 year old we had Josh Greenhalgh who capped off a brilliant year with two personal bests, three medals and top boy in the 13/14 age group. Our 15 year old team was Rachel and she enjoyed the butterfly 50m so much she achieved a personal best alongside two others and a medal in the breaststroke. The oldest swimmers were Jack Gilkes, Chelsea and Jacob; Jack was the spot prize king on the day winning two prizes and getting a personal best in the backstroke; Chelsea is now back in serious training and it shows - she got one personal best and won three medals, finally Jacob got over his initial early morning nerves and recorded three personal bests and won one medal.

All in all there were 29 personal bests, seven medals and one best in age – well done swimmers.
