John Harriman Individual Championship
First Session – 14/02/2010
The 2010 individual galas have started and Rossington swimmers have once again performed like stars.
Every swimmer got at least one personal best each which is all we can ask for.
All our swimmers performed well across the age groups:
Lucy, our soul 9 year old has really progressed well and got two medals and three personal bests; Zara was at her first individual gala and after looking nervous in her first race she really came up to the plate and got a personal best for her efforts. Eva performed well again and got a well deserved personal best in the breaststroke and Lauren W continued to show how good a swimmer she is by improving her butterfly personal best once again.
Sasha had a bumper day in terms of personal bests coming away with three out of four and Lauren P continues to produce great performances pushing forward and getting another personal best for her efforts. The only two boys in attendance were Aaron and Jordan and they did not let us down - Jordan equalled his personal best in the front crawl and knocked a second and a half off his breaststroke on his way to two medals on the day. Aaron once again performed out of his skin gaining two big personal bests on his way to two medals and two speeding tickets.
Many thanks to Sandra, Chelsea, Jacob and Clive for helping and supporting the swimmers on poolside.
We'd also like to congratulate Bev Coy and her team for doing a great job on the day.
Second Session – 14/02/2010
Another very successful gala for the RASCALS with some of our younger swimmers experiencing an individual gala for the first time and they were not overawed.
The ten year old team was made up of Morgan, Joseph and Elizabeth; Morgan just missed out on a medal but achieved four personal bests and broke the 20 second barrier for 25m freestyle, Elizabeth only wanted to do her favourite breaststroke and was rewarded with a personal best, Joseph got one personal best and came away with a 5th place medal - you could tell he was happy and surprised as he was jumping up and down punching the air.
We had a very strong 11 year old section with the girls led by Katie and Caitlin who are getting stronger by the day - Caitlin came away with a first and two speeding tickets, Katie got a 3rd, two fifths and a speeding ticket. Megan, Bea and Charlotte were in their first individual gala and competed well; Megan achieved two personal bests and Charlotte three while Bea achieved three as well. For the boys there was Eddie, Josh Sellars and Ben Carville - they have been working hard in training and it shows; Ben got a first place aw well as a 6th and three personal bests, Eddie got a superb second place as well as a 5th and one personal best while Josh got a 1st place, a 3rd and a 4th and picked up a speeding ticket.
Holly and Joshua Greenhalgh represented the 13 year old age group with Holly knocking a whopping 4 seconds off her 50m freestyle; Joshua medalled in all four strokes; getting a 2nd place, a 4th and two 5ths, he also got two personal bests. Chelsea, Farrah and Jacob were our senior swimmers in the 15 year old age group and they did not disappoint the chief cheerleaders Dot, Sandra and Jill. Farrah achieved two 2nd places, a 3rd and got one personal best; Chelsea impressed in her breaststroke and led from start to finish and she got a speeding ticket for her efforts, she got two personal bests and a 4th as well as two 5th places. Jacob has been working on his butterfly and you could tell as he got a two second personal best and won all four events.
All in all it is very satisfying watching our swimmers do so well and their efforts are paying dividends.
The tale of the tape is 26 medals, five speeding tickets and 30 personal bests - not bad for a small club.
Many thanks to Sandra, Dot, Neil and Clive for their support on the day and to the parents on the balcony for their vocal encouragement.
